This week we’ll talk about the little things we can do to give our guest rooms a top notch clean, making them tidy for family and friends to drop in.

Regularly Clean the Guest Room: even if you don’t often expect guests, this can help cut back on the amount of time it takes for you to clean the room. It can also help keep the room cleaner, since it cuts back on the amount of dust and dirt that sits in the room. Regular cleans like this shouldn’t take more than five-ten minutes since it’s done with such frequency.

Dust or Vacuum Under the Beds: the type of flooring in your guest room can determine how often this should be done. If it’s a carpeted room, then once or twice a year will do—since it will involve moving the bed. But if it’s hardwood flooring, then dusting it every time the room is cleaned will be helpful in cutting back on the amount of dust that collects there. No matter how clean the room is otherwise, there will be dust bunnies and bits of hair, debris, and dirt that drift underneath.

Have Fresh, Clean Sheets & Bedding Ready for Guests at a Moment’s Notice: if it’s important to cut back on the amount of dust in the room, we might be reluctant to have the bed made and ready to go, waiting for a guest to come along. If that’s the case, then a great solution is to keep a set of sheets and blankets neatly folded in the room. Keep them somewhere where the dust can’t get to them. When your family and friends call to let you know they’re on their way, it’ll be a quick process to put them on the bed.

Vacuum & Dust the Room Weekly: this is similar to regularly cleaning the room, but these two tasks go a long way in contributing to the cleanliness of the room. The dust and dirt won’t stand a chance to settle into the room. Even if no-one regularly goes into the guest room and it’s closed off, it doesn’t mean that dust isn’t getting into the room. It still has to be cleaned up and maintained.

Finishing Touches: what about finishing touches? These aren’t exactly cleaning tips, but leaving a fun little note, gift (such as a sweet treat), or card that welcomes your guest can be a fun. It’s an extra, little step that makes them feel even more welcomed!
