We want our homes to smell nice but we don’t want to sacrifice our health and safety for it. Many air fresheners you can buy in store unfortunately have harmful chemicals in their ingredients. We, at Maid to Shine, think it’s so important to research the ingredients that are in the cleaning products we bring into our homes. If you just can’t find an air freshener that makes you feel safe follow our tips for making your very own all natural air freshener.Â
Here is a list of things you will need to have your home smelling fresh in no time:
- Spray Bottle
- Water
- Rubbing Alcohol- optional
- Essential oil(s) of your choice
- Funnel- optionalÂ
With all your items in hand it’s time to start mixing! Grab your spray bottle and funnel and fill it with 3/4 cup of water. Then add 2 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol. We like to use rubbing alcohol in our air freshener because it makes it dry faster once you spritz it into the air or on your furniture. After the rubbing alcohol is in you can add 10 drops of essential oil. Don’t be afraid to get creative here! Try mint and citrus or clove and vanilla. Smell as you go but try to get at least 10 drops total of essential oil in there to make the smell pop!Â
With everything in your spray bottle give it a little shake and get to spraying! Do be aware that some essential oils are not safe for animals, so please do your research if you have fur babies in the home.Â
The best part about making your own air freshener is you can put one together so quickly! So when the holidays role around make one with ginger or rosemary. Or maybe you know that your mother-in-law loves lavender so why not have that ready to go when she comes to visit. What are your favorite essential oils? Let us know in the comments. We hope you have fun putting together your own air freshener!Â
